I had a 97 M3 for a long time, and I really liked the car, and hated when it was totaled in an accident that was none of my fault. I thought I'd be slick and buy an E30 to swap the drivetrain into, but I did not count on a close family member falling terminally ill, and having to shelve the project while I left my home to handle the clear priority.
In my absence, ACE and D-Force built the car. Without getting too deep into the insane debt of gratitude that I owe them, I will say that owner Tom M could call me tomorrow and demand the title to the machine, and I would gladly hand it and the keys immediately over. Tom has been a close friend for a good many years, but what he did for me here is so far and beyond that of the normal bounds of friendship that it is truly staggering.
A nod also needs to be given to ACE head mechanic Peter R, who took it upon himself to first convince me not to scrap the project after I had already purchased the E30, but who then drove from his home in Rhode Island to Tewksbury, Massachusetts every day for the better part of two months. He would work on the car, and return home only to repeat the trip the next day. While I was busy dealing with one of the hardest trials of my life, Peter, Tom, and ACE electrics expert Nick P worked through the multitude of challenges that my car presented.
It was not an easy swap, as the car needed far more chasis and suspension fortification than anyone could forsee, but in the end the talent prevailed. I returned home temporarily to pick up the car, and have now put about 3500 hard, fun miles on it.
I am impressed every time I get into it. I loved my E36 M3, and the E30 is quickly shaping up to be a worthy successor. I have collected a few of the pictures, and even video that I have gathered along the way so far, and will be adding more to the page as the season develops, so be sure to check back often.
